The hits keep coming in 2020 for Notre Dame basketball, as junior Robby Carmody will undergo surgery after he suffered a knee injury on Monday according to an ISD source. The South Bend Tribune’s Tom Noie was the first to report.
We’re also told by a source Notre Dame won’t know the severity of the injury until the surgery is complete and that will be done on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4 guard has been bit by the injury bug since arriving in South Bend. He tore his labrum as a freshman and then tore his ACL last December after returning to the lineup from a concussion and a shoulder contusion injury.
The Mars (Pa.) native was part of Notre Dame's impressive 2018 recruiting class and was the first to start a game. Carmody scored 11 points and pulled down four rebounds against UIC. The start marked the first freshman to start at Notre Dame since Torin Francis in 2002-03.
As a sophomore, Carmody played in seven games before his ACL injury. He averaged 5.4 points and 1.6 rebounds for the Irish.
This news comes a day after Notre Dame announced assistant coach Ryan Ayers was no longer part of the program and pursuing other opportunities.
