Notre Dame Postpones Saturday's Game at Wake Forest

Notre Dame canceled its practice for Tuesday and now has postponed its trip to play Wake Forest as the football program received seven positive COVID-19 tests on Monday.

A total of 94 players were given the test. Those positive student-athletes are in isolation and the contract tracing process has started.

Notre Dame has also paused football-related activities until further testing is completed after working with the St. Joseph County Department of Health.

"With student-athlete health and safety our primary focus, we will continue to follow our prevention and ongoing testing procedures," Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly said in a statement. "We managed an increase in positivity-rates in August and the players handled it wonderfully.

"We knew COVID would present challenges throughout the season, and we'll always put student-athlete health and safety at the forefront of our decision making. We look forward to resuming team activities and getting back to the playing field."

It's worth noting Wake Forest and Notre Dame have bye weeks set for October 3rd, so if all goes well, the game could potentially be played the following week, but there is obviously no rush to play a game.

As always, stay tuned to ISD for the latest as the Irish move forward.
