2021 CB Philip Riley Backs Away from Notre Dame Commitment

2021 Bloomingdale (Fla.) cornerback Philip Riley‍ has publicly decommitted from Notre Dame after telling the Fighting Irish staff a few days ago.

The four-star prospect committed to Notre Dame on May 5th, but the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder had battled second thoughts and has now decided to part ways with the Irish.

Riley, who is originally from around Tacoma (Wash.), holds offers from over 30 programs coast to coast. USC and Washington could be early favorites here as it would allow him to play closer to home on the West Coast if that's what he desires.

Notre Dame never got the chance to host Riley as his commitment came during the dead period due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the NCAA has yet to allow recruits to visit schools.

It's not all bad news as the Irish still have an impressive cornerback class with Ryan Barnes‍ and Chance Tucker‍ to go along with Justin Walters at safety.

Notre Dame has recruited four-star Ceyair Wright‍ hard and his recruitment will likely be stressed even more with Riley's departure. The Irish also recently offered North Central (Ind.) athlete Theran Johnson‍, who could project as a receiver or defensive back, but he’s currently committed to Northwestern.
