Jarred Kerr‍ didn’t see the offer he received from Notre Dame coming.

“I was actually blindsided,” the 2022 Texas athlete said. “I’d never talked to Notre Dame before and I got a call from my head coach because it wasn’t Sept. 1st yet. Then, I called Notre Dame and they offered.”

He doesn’t know a ton about the Irish yet, but called it a “great” offer.

“That’s a big prestigious offer,” said Kerr. “They don’t just go out offering everybody.

“I just started talking with the coaches. I haven’t done a lot of research.”

The 6-foot, 185-pounder from Lexington, Texas spoke with Irish recruiting coordinator Brian Polian.

“He said they love how I’m an athlete who can do different things and that they’re going to offer me as a safety and could see me as a part of the program,” Kerr said.

“They think I’m a rare talent and they would love to see me play in their safety spot.”

Some schools are recruiting the Lexington High School standout as a receiver, but Kerr said he doesn’t have a preference, at least not yet. Kerr also has offers from schools like Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Kansas and Washington State among others.

With the COVID crisis forcing a months-long dead period, Kerr has yet to take a single college visit yet.

“You’ve definitely got to look at it differently; who’s keeping in contact the most and who’s building relationships since you can’t be there,” he said.

Kerr said he would like to visit South Bend “for sure” when he has the chance.

“I’d just like to see all of the football facilities and the campus and finally meet all of the coaching staff in person,” he said.

He also has an idea of what he’s looking for in a college.

“Just a place I know where I can go and know I’m leaving my family for another family and somewhere I know can produce NFL talent.”
