BREAKING | 2021 G Blake Wesley Has Signed With Notre Dame
The Notre Dame men’s basketball program placed a premium on the recruitment of Blake Wesley from the start.
That investment just paid off big time as the 2021 South Bend shooting guard announced his decision to play for Mike Brey and the Irish on Friday morning.’
“It’s the hometown school,” Wesley told Irish Sports Daily prior to his announcement. “I like the people, the atmosphere and the coaches have had good communication with me.
“My family and friends are here. People want to see me here.”
Wesley actually signed with the Irish during the early signing period, making this an official commitment.
“We have been watching Blake work on his game since middle school and he has developed himself into a complete guard who has great length with court vision – and is a big-time defender,” Brey said in a statement released by the University.
“He has a natural ability to score the basketball. To welcome in another local basketball talent is exciting not only to our program, but the South Bend area.”
Brey and assistant Ryan Humphrey have taken the lead on making sure the 6-foot-5 Wesley understood how important he was to them.
“They’re good people,” the Riley High School star said. “Coach Brey texts me almost every day and Coach Humphrey texts me every day. They’re good people.”
Even if they didn’t need it, the coaches received an assist from 2021 Irish signee JR Konieczny, who plays at nearby South Bend St. Joseph High School and has been close friends with Wesley for years.
From the time he made his own commitment in August of 2019, Konieczny put a premium on getting Wesley to join him.
“He’s a good dude, good player,” Wesley said of Konieczny. “I’m with him all of the time.
“We started playing together in fifth or sixth grade…He’s a good player. That’s my man. He’s a good shooter, a great shooter.”
