Recruitment Rundown
One of the most interesting recruitments this cycle for sure. Colzie’s affection – and his mother’s affection – for Notre Dame was well-known before the Irish even offered. When Notre Dame did offer in June of 2019 following a strong camp performance, the Irish were immediately elevated to the top of his list even when both Alabama and Georgia offered.

So, it wasn’t a shock when Colzie publicly committed to Notre Dame in October of 2019. But as weeks went by, it started to become evident that Colzie was having second thoughts and in March

“Academically, he’s going to be strong. He’s just a good young man at his core who comes from a good family. That’s one of the most important things I like that I see in the young man, just being a good person.

“I kind of compare him to the receiver that Notre Dame just lost this past year, the young man from Canada, (Chase) Claypool. He’s going to have that body type. He definitely reminds me of him. He might not have as much straight-line speed as him because I didn’t know (Claypool) ran a 4.4 until the Combine, but definitely just a big-body receiver who is going to catch the 50/50 balls and he’s going to have a lot of catches.”

Miles Boykin is the one I thought of when watching Colzie, although Boykin was bigger as a junior in high school. I think Colzie can be as big as Boykin eventually, but what makes me think of Boykin more than anything else is the deep speed.

Colzie might not look like he’s moving as quick as some others and neither did Boykin. Both have the kind of speed that can threaten over the top and that is rare for players who are that tall.

He projects to play on the boundary and has the talent that could see him making an impact early in his career. It took Boykin awhile to see the field for the Irish, but that was partially due to the logjam at his position. Colzie might have to deal with that as well, but his size and skill set suggest he can eventually develop into a high-level starter for the Irish.

“I really appreciated them wanting to rebuild the relationship even though I decommitted once. I feel like they did a really good job reaching out to me and my family and they made me feel at home and made my family feel at home.”
