Recruitment Rundown
Is it even a real recruiting cycle if there isn’t a “secret visit”? If that’s true, Tucker checked that box when he quietly made a trip to South Bend in July. Tucker and his father also made a visit up to Washington that month, so he could compare his top two schools in advance of his decision.

That decision came a month later and Tucker chose the Irish, saying, “it was really the academic prestige of Notre Dame that made the difference.”

Crespi Carmelite Head Coach Dameon Porter
“Size and speed; the same things that make all kids special. “Chance is about 6 feet, closer to 6-1 and 170 pounds. You combine that with track speed of 10.9 in the 100 meters. Division-I athleticism is defined by those two characteristics, size and speed. You start there, which is what coaches call the Eye Test. I think he passes it.

“If you’re wondering why Notre Dame, you add in the 4.2 GPA and the well-rounded nature of his individual personality, you’ve got a good fit for a kid at that institution. He’s got a private school background. He’s from a small family. I think he’s going to be OK with the rural landscaping of the Midwest. Not all California kids are able to adapt to that type of environment, but Chance is a well-rounded kid from a diverse background.”

ISD Expert Jamie Uyeyama
Out of the four corners Notre Dame has committed, I believe Tucker has the highest ceiling.

He checks so many boxes with his game and has the kind of speed necessary to excel at the corner position. He was timed at 10.97 in the 100-meters at his only track event of 2020 before sports were shut down and typically the first meet isn’t where an athlete runs his fastest.

He’s a fit at field corner for the Irish and they definitely needed to find someone to play there with Philip Riley‍ and Ryan Barnes‍ better-suited to play the boundary or potentially move to safety.

Tucker is someone who would have had a good opportunity to bump up his rating with some camp performances, but regardless of that, the film doesn’t lie. This is a very big pickup for Notre Dame and he has the talent to develop into a multi-year starter.

Favorite ISD Quote
“I know (Mickens and Lea) are the type of guys who will push their players to be the best they can, challenging them and staying on top of them. They’re going to push their players to reach their goals. They want their players to reach their goals as much as the players want to reach their goals. That’s kind of why I’m so attracted to them because I know they want the best for me and see my potential and will know how to get the best out of me.”
