Recruitment Rundown
Notre Dame had been interested in Schweitzer as a player long before it offered, but had to find the right fit in terms of numbers and positions. Unsure if that fit would ever materialize, Schweitzer made the decision to commit to Nebraska in June. After initially looking at Schweitzer as an inside linebacker, Brian Polian and Clark Lea brought defensive line coach Mike Elston into the mix and eventually extended an offer as a defensive end.

Schweitzer quietly took an independent unofficial visit to South Bend in early-August and a couple weeks later, he completely the flip from the Cornhuskers to the Irish.

Los Gatos Head Coach Mark Krail
“He checks the boxes. I told a lot of people. He’s a great student in the classroom. He’s a leader on the field. He’s a leader in the weight room. He’s a real pleasant, upbeat kind of kid. When I say checks the boxes, I’m talking about personality, commitment, attitude and academics. He’s the kid in the classroom who is raising his hand and participating in discussions. Teachers love him. He’s just a super well-rounded kid. He’s someone you hope for great things ahead of him.

“If you look at his film, you’ll see he plays super-fast on the field. That’s what jumps out. He’s a kid who loves football and loves playing fast and never wants to come off the field.”

ISD Expert Jamie Uyeyama
It’s clear Schweitzer is only just growing into his body and is going to get a lot bigger and I imagine much better when given an opportunity to rush the passer. TCU and Utah both offered him and those programs certainly have a good grasp of 3-star pass rushers who aren’t strictly lining up off the edge in high school. They find projectable athletes and then convert them.

That’s what Notre Dame is doing here as well. I really like his potential and believe his senior season, if he gets to play it this spring, will tell us a lot about his ceiling in college.

He’s definitely a player who will have to physically and technically develop, but the long-term potential is exciting. He’s an athletic fit for the Vyper position and Notre Dame needed to take a player at that position in this class. Schweitzer has the tools to become a quality starter at some point at Notre Dame.
