Recruitment Rundown
Barnes saw his recruitment explode at the end of his junior season. He picked up his first offer from November and within a matter of months, and a few waves of offers, he had more than 30 offers from many of the nation’s top programs. With some close to him describing him as a “Notre Dame-type kid,” it was no surprise when the Irish were still around when he cut his list in half.

There was talk about him getting back to South Bend for a visit over the summer, but said he was unable to work out a date. Still, the relationships he’d built with the staff in South Bend were more than enough for Barnes to feel completely comfortable committing to the Irish over schools like Clemson, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Oklahoma and Penn State among others.

Quince Orchard Defensive Backs Coach Darnell Evans
“He’s got long, long arms. He’s a long strider. He has good makeup speed, good hips for a guy his height as well. He’s pretty physical, so when he gets his hands on a receiver, it’s pretty much a done deal at the line of scrimmage. He can get out of his breaks pretty good for somebody his height…He has a good stride. He runs track. His stride eats up a lot of yards.

“He’s always on top, so it’s hard to really beat him deep and I think he knows that and uses that to his advantage when he’s playing off-man or even pressing the receiver to bait the quarterback to throw the ball.”

ISD Expert Jamie Uyeyama
It’s undeniable that Barnes has unique size to play corner and that’s why he’s so intriguing as a prospect. If Mike Mickens does get him to be sound technically sound and he has the speed to match up with the top guy on the boundary, he could end up being a high-level starter for multiple seasons.

At the very least he should be a quality player on special teams and can possibly move to safety with his instincts and tackling ability. He’s a good take in the class and someone who isn’t close to realizing his potential.

Favorite ISD Quote
“They just checked all of my boxes with the academics, athletics, the alumni base they have and the connections I have with the coaching staff. Everything I was looking for, I found in Notre Dame.”
