BREAKING | 2021 S Khari Gee Flips To Notre Dame
The current Notre Dame staff is known for its diligent and persistent effort when it comes to recruiting. Sometimes that approach pays dividends and sometimes it doesn’t.
With the Class of 2021, it certainly has and the Irish have added another member to 24-man group it signed on Wednesday.
Georgia safety Khari Gee just announced he has signed with the Irish and he did so on Wednesday.
Notre Dame extended an offer to the Atlanta prospect back in March and the Irish certainly grabbed his attention right away and he expressed a sincere interest in visiting. Then, COVID-19 shut down recruiting visits for the rest of the year.
Just prior to the shutdown, Gee had the chance to check out LSU and committed to the Tigers two months later, choosing them over his other finalists, Clemson and Oregon at the time.
But Notre Dame and secondary coach Terry Joseph remained persistent and were eventually able to pluck the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder from LSU.
When he was first offered, the Woodward Academy star told ISD that Joseph saw him fitting Nickel/Hybrid position in Notre Dame’s defense.
Woodward Academy defensive backs coach Ryan Davis sees Gee’s versatility as one of his greatest strengths.
“A lot of schools think he’s very similar to the kid who played at Clemson, Isaiah Simmons,” says Davis. “He’s long, rangy and athletic, so he can do a lot of things.
“At times, he’s in the box almost like a linebacker and sometimes he’s at the line of scrimmage taking on a tackle or pulling guard or something like that. He also covers slots, so he’s versatile for us…He could be a safety. He could be an outside linebacker. It all depends on how his body develops.”
