Notre Dame has landed a graduate transfer quarterback as Wisconsin’s Jack Coan has committed to the Fighting Irish.

The 6-foot-3, 221-pounder threw for 3,278 yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in three years in Madison, including 2,727 yards 18 touchdowns and five picks in 2019.

Coan is familiar with the Irish program as he was committed to Notre Dame for lacrosse before committing to the Badgers for football.

In October, Coan underwent successful surgery on his right foot, which sidelined him for the 2020 season. The injury was suffered during non-contact work in practice on October 3rd.

Coan did return practice late in the season and could have played if needed.

Notre Dame will now have an interesting quarterback competition between Coan, junior Brendon Clark, sophomore Drew Pyne and early enrollee Tyler Buchner. Clark’s could come into play in that competition as he wasn’t dressed for the Rose Bowl as he deals with a knee issue.

Notre Dame beat out Rutgers and Tennessee for Coan’s commitment.
