The first thing that stands out to Fyrone Davis about Ryland Gandy‍ is the 2022 Georgia cornerback’s character.

“He’s a very humble young man,” says Davis, who serves as Buford High School’s recruiting coordinator.

“His character allows him to be able to get those kinds of offers and be the same person every day. It’s very special. It’s different, it’s unique. He’s very worried about his parents. He’s a sharp young man. Academically, he’s very gifted in the classroom as well.”

Those kinds of offers include Penn State, USC, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and as of this month, Notre Dame.

“He’s long, very long with long arms,” Davis says of Gandy. “He’s got really, really good speed. His tracking skills and IQ of football is very high. That's what makes him really, really dangerous because he knows the game from inside out and really understands the game.”

Davis says the offer from the Irish wasn’t just another one to add to the list.

“This was not another,” he says. “We talked for about 10 minutes about it. He's pretty excited, pretty fired up. He was super fired up about the Notre Dame offer.

“I told him, ‘Hey man, this is an offer you need to pay attention to. This is a phenomenal offer. You need to make sure you pay attention to it.’”

Davis plans on meeting with his upcoming seniors soon, a group that also includes Irish safety target Jake Pope‍, to talk about how to handle the current challenges of recruiting.

“We'll have a plan in place for our ‘22 group,” he says. “We've got about 16 Division-I kids in that class. That class is especially loaded. So, I’ll have a plan for them and say, ‘This is what it looks like, and everything will be strictly my opinion.’”

Davis says he isn’t sure where Pope stands with the Irish at the moment.

“We just won a state championship, so we haven’t spent a whole lot of time talking about Notre Dame and not Notre Dame. Of course, he would be a phenomenal pick up on the back end. He’s special as well. Very special.”
