BREAKING | Chris O'Leary To Be Named Notre Dame Safeties Coach
According to multiple sources, Notre Dame has its safeties coach in Chris O'Leary, who has been a graduate assistant at the University since 2018.
One source stated it's a big-time hire for the Irish.
"Big-time coach who can relate to players," said one source. "He has a grind mentality to him and will work to get his guys in the best spot on and off the field. A true ball coach."
Another source familiar with O’Leary echoed similar comments and raved about his character.
“He’s a guys guy,” stated the source. “Full of juice, relatable and a relentless worker. The guy doesn’t even curse. I don’t know many people like that. Great character and one you want your sons or daughters coached by.”
It’s clear there has been a great trust built already as Notre Dame put O'Leary on the road recruiting in California in January of 2020. He checked in on a few 2021 defensive back targets like Ceyair Wright and Dyson McCutcheon.
Before Notre Dame, O'Leary coached safeties at Florida Tech in 2017 with a two-year stop at Georgia State from 2015-17 as a graduate assistant.
O'Leary is a native of Terre Haute, Ind., and played receiver at Indiana State from 2010-2013. He recorded 47 career receptions for 397 yards in 27 games for the Sycamores.
Stayed tuned to ISD for more on the hire.
