The biggest impact that a tight end made during the 2016 season happened before the first snap.

Alize Jones was supposed to be the breakout star at tight end and could have been the breakout star of the entire offense. After a great spring, expectations were pretty high heading into fall camp. Before the team got to Culver to start the season, Notre Dame announced that he was going to be ineligible because of academics and the expectations for a dynamic presence at tight end vanished soon after.
