Louis Nix III was reported missing on Wednesday and was tragically found dead on Saturday, according to a report from Ben Becker of Action News Jacksonville after speaking to Nix's mother.

The former Notre Dame star was last seen on Tuesday and then the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office pulled Nix's car out of a pond on Saturday evening.

It had been a rough couple of months for Nix as he had been battling back from being shot during an attempted armed robbery in December while filling his tires. The Jacksonville native was in the hospital for over a week recovering from the incident as the bullet ricocheted off his sternum and into his lung.

Irish fans knew Nix as "Irish Chocolate" and quickly became one of the favorite sons of Notre Dame as he had a larger than life personality. Nix might have actually won over the fanbase before he even played a game, as Notre Dame didn't even have a head coach when he committed to the Irish.

The former Raines High School (Fla.) star helped lead Notre Dame to the National Championship game in 2013. Nix recorded 122 tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks during his time in South Bend.

Nix was chosen in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans and then had stints with New York Giants, Washington and Jacksonville before retiring in 2017.

Nix was 29.
