2023 CB, Notre Dame Legacy Jayvon Thomas Fired Up About Offer
Jayvon Thomas has heard all about Notre Dame from his father, former Irish linebacker Joe Thomas, but the younger Thomas has never been to South Bend.
That’s likely to change soon after the 2023 Texas cornerback scored an offer from Notre Dame on Wednesday.
The Dallas South Oak Cliff standout picked up the offer during a conversation with Irish cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens.
“He said he likes how I play and that he would like to offer me,” Thomas told Irish Sports Daily right afterward. “He was basically telling me about how their education is and how it can help for football and after football.
“I was very excited.”
Thomas added Notre Dame to a list that already included schools like Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, USC and Oregon among others.
“I know that their education is very good and they have one of the highest graduation percentages that there is at the college level,” he said of the Irish.
He’s also excited about the opportunity of “building another franchise” in South Bend, following his father, who played for the Irish in the late-90s and told his son about his time there.
“Basically, about how their school is up there,” Thomas said of what he’s heard from his father. “It's kind of cold, but they have a good fan base and a good support system for their education and sports-wise.”
Thomas wants to visit South Bend, but doesn’t have a date picked out just yet.
“I would like to see their facilities and their education, just how they operate,” he said.
Mickens made a strong initial impression.
“He seems like a pretty cool coach from when I talked to him,” said Thomas.
Thomas isn’t claiming any leaders yet – “I would say everyone is even right now” – but he does know what he wants from a college.
“What I'm looking for is where I would fit best at, like tailor-fitted and then where I would feel the most comfortable.”
