Deuce Harmon became the first player from Guyer High School in Denton, Texas to pick up an offer from Notre Dame in quite a while, when the 2021 Texas cornerback picked up his scholarship offer from the Irish last January.

Harmon seriously considering the Irish, but was never able to get campus after COVID hit and eventually signed with Texas A&M.

Ironically, Harmon suffered an injury midway through his senior season at Guyer, which gave 2023 cornerback Ryan Yaites‍ an opportunity to step in.

“He took some lumps early,” Guyer assistant Mike Gallegos said. “He basically went from playing freshman ball to playing 6A Varsity ball in a matter of one game. He stepped in, held his own.

“He's got great length. He's got great speed. Over the next couple of years, he's going to turn into a really, really good player.”

Colleges agree and schools like Colorado, Maryland and USC have already offered. Notre Dame joined that list on St. Patrick’s Day.

“He's very excited,” Gallegos said. “Anytime you get a top-notch program like Notre Dame that takes interest in, it's a big-time offer for any kid, especially a sophomore.

“He's a great kid. Always has got a smile on his face. He's a great student, comes from a good family. So, he checks all of the boxes for sure.”

In addition to Yaites, the Irish also offered fellow 2023 Guyer defensive back Peyton Bowen on St. Patrick’s Day.

“I want to say that Deuce last year was the first guy that picked up a Notre Dame offer,” said Gallegos. “Now, we have a couple. I know both of them will put some huge consideration and really look into it.”
