2022 Forward Dom Campbell Talks Notre Dame Hoops Offer & More
It was a busy Tuesday for Dom Campbell as the 2022 power forward from the Northeast landed his first two Power Five offers, adding Notre Dame and South Carolina to a list that had already included several mid-major and Ivy League programs.
“I'm excited about Notre Dame being a good school, good basketball school and good academic school,” said Campbell, who attends prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.
The 6-foot-9, 260-pounder learned of the Irish offer via head coach Mike Brey, who made a positive initial impression.
“He seems like a really good guy,” Campbell said of Brey. “I've heard a lot of good things about him from my high school coach – Jay Tilton - and (Middlesex Magic coach Mike) Crotty as well.
“He seems like a really, really good coach and an even a better guy, so I'm really excited about the opportunity.”
Brey let Campbell know why the Irish feel he’d be a good fit for their system.
“He said that he liked that I had a feel for the game and he liked my footwork and my hands as well,” Campbell said of Brey.
“I think he just saw something special in me and I'm very blessed to have received an offer.”
The Maine native, who goes to school in New Hampshire and plays travel ball with the Massachusetts-based Magic, doesn’t seem to be in a major rush to end his recruitment.
“I'm just going to keep working hard, getting better every day and then we'll see what the future holds,” he said.
Campbell doesn’t have any visits locked in yet, but does plan on remaining in touch with the Irish.
He does expect to bring the process to a close within a matter of months.
“I'm thinking sometime in the fall or maybe early winter, but again, I'm not 100 percent sure,” he said.
“I just want to go to a school that has a great culture, a school that has a winning culture and a great basketball program. I just want to go to a school that feels right for me. I think I'll get all those things once I start visiting schools. So hopefully I'll know where I want to go by the fall.”
