2023 TE Walker Lyons Recaps Notre Dame Trip

Walker Lyons‍ wrapped up a tour of Midwestern powers with a stop in South Bend on Sunday to see Notre Dame.

“It was awesome,” the 2023 California tight end told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “It was super good.”

The Folsom High School standout didn’t anticipate doing so beforehand, but took the staff up on the offer to participate in the Irish Invasion showcase camp.

“I wasn't expecting to like run a 40 and do all that, but I was happy to do it and I felt good,” Lyons explained. “I felt like I ran super well and did my best.

“It was awesome. It was fun doing it with all the coaches and meeting all the coaches. It was super fun just being out there competing.”

Lyons called was also impressed with the campus in South Bend.

“The campus is beautiful,” the 6-foot-5, 232-pounder said. “It was just the cleanest and really the prettiest campus I think I've ever been on. I like how there are no roads and stuff, just going in between it and how it's kind of like a closed campus feel.”

Irish tight ends coach John McNulty also made a strong impression.

“I liked him a lot,” Lyons said of McNulty. “We had a good meeting with him and we were breaking down some stuff about what their offense does. It was pretty awesome being in the room.”

Lyons, who has an extremely impressive offer sheet that includes schools like USC, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Michigan and Ohio State, could add the Irish to his list eventually.

“They're going to stay in touch and build a relationship and see what happens in the future,” he said. “Hopefully an offer comes and if not, it's all good. I did my best.”

Prior to arriving in South Bend, Lyons made stops in Columbus and Ann Arbor.

“Those were awesome. They're both big, big-time programs. Ohio State, the culture was super crazy there and at Michigan, the coaches were unbelievable. They're both just awesome. I had a good time meeting with Coach Harbaugh on Coach Day and everyone from the whole staffs. It was just awesome.”
