Notre Dame already went out west for one 4-star cornerback commitment in the 2022 class and they landed another one when Benjamin Morrison‍ (Arizona) pledged to the Irish today.

A player who is capable of succeeding in press or off coverage, Morrison is significant pickup at a critical position of need in this recruiting class.

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 172

Projected Position: Cornerback

ISD Grade: 90 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 90.0 (4-star)

What he does best:

Morrison certainly has the physical and athletic traits to succeed at the position. He has the long speed to run with vertical routes and his short area quickness really jumps out. I really like his ability to mirror receivers in man coverage and that really popped with his sophomore film.

I love his decisiveness. He does a very good job recognizing the screen game and attacking. Slower blockers struggle to get an angle on him because of how aggressive he is.

Though he’s not the biggest guy, he’s plenty physical, especially in run support. He screams downhill and is not afraid to throw his whole body to make a tackle.

What he needs to improve:

I didn’t see the ball production I wanted to see during his junior season. He got his hands on the football a lot more as a sophomore and perhaps he was simply targeted less often as a junior. It is something worth monitoring, but what he did the previous year does at least show he can find the football.

What’s his ceiling?

I believe Morrison has a chance to be a very good corner at the college level. He fits the mold of a two-way player and athlete that Notre Dame has targeted recently, but he’s also much more refined technically with his footwork than some others they’ve signed in recent classes.

He might not be the ideal size to play the boundary, but he plays big enough to succeed there while also having the tools to play the field corner spot. I think he has the kind of instincts and athleticism to be an option as a nickel as well. That versatility should help him compete early in his career.

Consistently finding the football is going to determine how good he can be, but he has the potential to be a complete corner and start for multiple seasons if his ball production ticks up.

Who he could be:

Former UCF cornerback Aaron Robinson
