2023 QB Pop Watson Enjoys Workout, Tour At Notre Dame
Pop Watson has been hitting the camp circuit hard over the past couple of weeks and on Tuesday, the 2023 Massachusetts quarterback was at Notre Dame to throw in front of the Irish.
“Today went good,” the Springfield Central High School star said immediately afterward. “I feel like I threw the ball real well.
“I could feel myself making uncomfortable throws, they helped me work with that. They also helped me work on my release and my reaction time.”
Watson went through a workout with Irish offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees and assistant John McNulty.
“They were real cool guys,” Watson said. “The coaches I met, I liked them.”
Watson already has offers from schools like Michigan, Tennessee, Oregon and Pittsburgh among others. He didn’t immediately add to that list after working out for the Irish, but the feedback from the coaches was encouraging.
He was also able to get a tour of campus.
“We went to the church,” said Watson. “Being inside of that caught my eye.
“We went into the locker room and we also drove around campus. They showed us like 20 different things that were built a long time ago.”
Watson, who has recently been to Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, and Pitt, was impressed with the campus in South Bend.
“That's my type of campus,” he said. “I like the campus. I could see myself on it.”
He was already pretty well-schooled on Notre Dame coming into the trip, but learned more detail about the school and the program, specifically the multiple sides of the University in terms of athletics, academics and spirituality.
“I thought that was pretty dope,” said Watson.
Watson is headed back home for a mega-camp at Springfield College on Friday before returning to hit the road. Over the next several weeks, he’ll make stops at Kentucky, Arizona, Oregon and a couple Ivy League schools.
He’s hoping to hear back from the Irish in the meantime and said an offer would basically leave him speechless.
“I wouldn't know how to react, honestly. That's just like one of those heart-kind-of-stops-for-a-second to process everything moments.”
