Aamil Wagner‍ has already taken a couple official visits and the 2022 Ohio offensive lineman has a few left, including one to Notre Dame this weekend.

“I’m extremely excited,” Wagner told Irish Sports Daily.

“I’m excited to finally get the chance to be on campus and meet the coaches. Obviously, there's a lot of Zoom calls, a lot of phone calls, but I’ve never had a chance to actually be in person and shake their hands. I'm also excited to learn more about the Notre Dame tradition in person, get a feel for the stadium and the people and just be on campus.”

Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn spoke with the Wayne High School standout on Monday to offer a preview of the visit.

“He gave me a basic rundown of going out to eat, walking around campus and touring, going to Coach Kelly's house, hanging out with the o-line a lot,” Wagner recalled. “Just some basic stuff.”

Like most offensive line targets, the 6-foot-6, 255-pounder sees plenty of value in getting to know the players he’d be playing alongside.

“I think it's really important to get a chance to meet the o-line room, the guys that are graduating from the program, guys who have been there for a while,” Wagner explained. “Every trip I've been on so far, I got a chance to spend time with the o-line group, meet them and ask them question about the coaching staff. They're always open and honest, so just getting a chance to talk to those guys and ask them questions is a big part.”

Wagner began the month with an official visit to Ohio State and was at Kentucky, where his brother played, last weekend.

“They were pretty good,” said Wagner. “The Ohio State visit, there were a lot of people there, 17 kids I think. I had a good time. I had a chance to meet the coaching staff. It was a good time seeing Columbus.

“As far as Kentucky, it was a good chance to go back to the home that my brother had two years and reconnecting with the coaches along with meeting some new coaches. They've got a new offensive coordinator, Coach (Liam) Coen, and a new o-line coach, Coach (Eric) Wolford. Getting a chance to sit down and shake their hands and do some breakout meetings was a good opportunity.

Wagner won’t have long to reflect on the Notre Dame visit.

He heads to Maryland for an official on Monday and then will wrap up his visit schedule with an official to Penn State next weekend.

He had been trying to work in a trip to Stanford, but that’s no longer in the picture.

“I'm actually not going to be able to get up to Stanford. I have my five officials set already and I'm focused on those schools.”
