David Hicks‍ got his first look at Notre Dame when the 2023 Texas defensive lineman visited South Bend for an unofficial visit on Thursday.

“I got to see the school and the facilities,” the 6-foot-4, 255-pounder said. “The facilities were amazing.”

The Allen High School standout also enjoyed seeing campus.

“It was nice,” he said. “It had a lot of history.”

Hicks owns an impressive offer sheet that includes the Irish along with schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Stanford and USC among several others.

He spent a good portion of time with Notre Dame defensive line coach Mike Elston.

“He was telling me how they're building something special and how I would fit,” said Hicks.

Elston told Hicks they envision him playing both defensive end and defensive tackle, which Hicks said, "Sounds fun."

He also spoke with Irish defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman.

“He was just talking to me about life and school,” Hicks explained.

Before leaving, he had a talk with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly as well.

“Just talking about school and what they're building is something big,” Hicks said of Kelly.

Hicks said he’ll surely return for another visit, but isn’t sure when.

He visits Missouri on Friday and then heads to Oklahoma on Saturday.

Notre Dame made a strong first impression.

“It's a pretty good school.”
