The first prospect in the Class of 2024 to land an offer from the Irish will be at Notre Dame on Wednesday evening for an unofficial visit on Thursday.

“I'm going to visit tomorrow morning,” Anthony Speca‍ told Irish Sports Daily.

The 2024 Pennsylvania linebacker added that he was “super excited” about the trip.

“I just want to meet the coaches and see what the campus is all about and what the team is about,” said Speca. “There's also going to be a camp. We're not attending the camp, but we might watch it.”

The Pittsburgh native picked up his offer from the Irish back in April and has remained in contact as much as he can.

“I've talked to Coach (Mike) Elston from time to time,” he said. “I can't really talk to coaches, they can't call me or anything, so it's kind of hard to stay in touch, but we try to.”

In addition to Notre Dame, the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder has offers from Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia, but Thursday’s trip will be a first of sorts.

“I've only visited Pitt because it's my hometown,” Speca said. “Notre Dame will be my first out-of-state visit.”

He’s planning stops at Purdue and Penn State after Notre Dame.

The Central Catholic High School standout is close friends with Donovan Hinish‍ and the Hinish family.

“They're a really good program and I think they push their kids,” he said of the Irish. “The person I know who's in the program (Kurt Hinish) has really succeeded being there. I think that just from what he's told me, it would be a great fit for me.”

Having Donovan committed as a member of the 2022 class “definitely helps with the comfort level,” according to Speca.

“He is probably my best friend and him being there, now I know that when I go up there, there's someone that I can see. Now I have somebody who can tell me about it with the new d-coordinator in Marcus Freeman, he can tell me how he is. He can give me a heads-up.”
