BREAKING | 2022 In-State Ashton Craig Commits to Notre Dame
It didn’t take long for 2022 Lawrenceburg (Ind.) offensive lineman Ashton Craig to come to a decision after being offered by Notre Dame earlier this week.
The 6-foot-5, 280-pounder has committed to Notre Dame and becomes the third member of the Irish offensive line haul in 2022 as he joins Ty Chan and Joey Tanona.
Craig, an ISD four-star prospect, camped in South Bend earlier this month and impressed the staff enough to earn the offer.
“He participated in one of the camps and had multiple conversations with Coach Quinn and the Notre Dame staff after that,” Lawrenceburg head coach Ryan Knigga said. “He just performed really well at their camp. They’d been recruiting him for probably close to two weeks.
It seems like a perfect match as Craig was looking for a balance of top tier academics, but also quality football.
“Notre Dame has the best academics, they compete for national championships and the overall culture and traditions are close to none, hard to beat,” said Craig. “Notre Dame is really good.”
Craig projects as an interior lineman and Knigga believes the Lawrenceburg star can make the transition because of his attitude.
“He can run, he can move, he can bend,” said Knigga. “He plays with a chip on his shoulder, plays with great tenacity. He's a smart kid that understands leverage. He also plays defense for us as well. I think seeing some of the defensive film that he has produced also makes him more valuable.”
