Notre Dame DE Devin Aupiu in Transfer Portal
Notre Dame freshman defensive end Devin Aupiu has entered the Transfer Portal as he released a statement on Tuesday evening.
“After speaking with Coach Kelly and the Notre Dame staff, I have decided to enter my name into the Transfer Portal. I am grateful for the opportunity that was provided to me by Notre Dame and look forward to seeing where my next chapter leads me.”
The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder had originally committed to UCLA before backing off that pledge and signing with the Fighting Irish.
Aupiu never visited South Bend before making his commitment as the COVID pandemic led to dead period over a year and the California native knew it was going to be an adjustment when he early enrolled in January.
"I'm a huge family first type of guy," said Aupiu prior to arriving at Notre Dame. "Taking this step out of my comfort zone and leaving my family is big.”
Aupiu worked at Vyper and some linebacker this spring while recording one tackle in the Blue-Gold Game.
Notre Dame is still strong along the defensive line as freshman Jason Onye, Will Schweitzer and Gabe Rubio are all on campus.
And as always, once a player goes in the Transfer Portal, they can also remove themselves at any point.
