2022 Bergen Catholic (N.J.) defensive back Jayden Bellamy‍ has committed to Notre Dame and will join Centennial (Calif.) cornerback Jaden Mickey‍ in the Irish secondary haul.

The ISD four-star prospect took official visits to Notre Dame, Penn State and Rutgers, his father’s alma mater, before making his commitment public on Friday evening.

Bellamy visited Notre Dame in 2019 and knew he wanted an opportunity to play for the Fighting Irish, so when the offer came in February, the Irish immediately shot to the top of his list.

“I was really happy because I feel like I was waiting for this offer for a minute,” Bellamy told ISD. “And now that I got it, I feel proud of myself.”

The 6-foot, 175-pounder plays cornerback and safety for Bergen Catholic and believes he could end up at either position for Notre Dame.

“They said that I am fast and I can get out the break quick and once they saw me, they felt like that I could play everywhere on the field,” stated Bellamy.

And his head coach, Vito Campanile, agrees with his star player.

“For us, he was the only, full-time two-way guy in the skilled positions,” the coach said. “He could play any position in the back four. He could certainly play wideout. And then, he hits like a truck. He really does. He's really reckless as far as his tackling ability. He's super.

“He has such an unflappable demeanor. The thing that really shows is when the ball's in the air, he never panics, never ever panics. His attitude as a defender, he really does do an incredible job. He's made some great plays as far as pick-sixes and big pass breakups, huge tackles on third down.

“He's just a football player. He really is. That's the best way to define him.”

Bellamy will also bring his 3.75 GPA to Notre Dame.
