Hoops | Notre Dame Officially Announces Hiring of Antoni Wyche
The Notre Dame men's basketball program and head coach Mike Brey have announced a new hiring as Antoni Wyche will return to South Bend as an assistant coach.
Wyche comes from Siena where he worked as an assistant coach, recruiting and defensive coordinator.
"Antoni is part of the Notre Dame family and I am excited to be able to bring him back to campus," Brey said in a release.
"He has a proven track record of identifying and developing talent. There's a toughness about him, a grinding work ethic and pride to be back working at his alma mater."
Before Siena, the former Notre Dame captain spent 10 years at Lehigh where the Mountain Hawks made the NCAA Tournament twice.
Lehigh is also where Wyche bolstered his resume as he landed and then developed Portland Trail Blazers star CJ McCollum, who was an NBA Lottery pick in 2013.
At Notre Dame, Wyche was a four-year letterman and appeared in 108 games with 64 starts. He finished his Irish career with 825 points, 222 rebounds and 193 assists.
"I am extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity to return home and can't wait to join the staff and team on campus," Wyche said.
"Notre Dame is a special place as I was fortunate enough to have met my wife here and I genuinely feel my experiences both on and off the court really helped mold the player and coach I became after graduation. The opportunity to work with this staff and team as we build back to the goal of postseason success is something I take with pride and look forward to attacking daily."
This looks to be the final piece of Brey's staff as there have been a few changes.
Former Director of Operations Harold Swanagan has moved to the Assistant Athletics Director in the GLD Center. Rod Balanis will stay with the program as he'll lead Notre Dame's personnel, development and scouting with help from Scott Martin.
Anthony Solomon, Ryan Humphrey and Wyche will serve as Brey's assistants in 2021-22.
