Coach On New Notre Dame Target Alex Karaban: I'd Bet On That Kid
Alex Karaban has seen his stock rise a bit over the last couple months, but the 2022 forward from Massachusetts isn’t hitting the radar out of nowhere.
“Alex has always been ranked on ESPN,” Expressions Elite Basketball founder Todd Quarles says of Karaban. “I think a lot of people are just starting to hear about him right now. He's always been doing this because he's always played up.
“He's very battle-tested. He's really driven. He's going to be a special player. He's only going to get better and better.”
After continuing to pile on offers this spring from schools like Iowa, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, LSU, UConn, Northwestern, Cincinnati and DePaul to an already-impressive list, Karaban added Notre Dame to the group on Friday.
“Alex has a quiet toughness and he's a determined kid who just outworks people,” Quarles says of the 6-foot-8, 210-pounder.
“His skillset is really high, but his mental quickness is what separates him from others. He sees the play developing two or three plays before others.”
Karaban will play his final year of high school ball at IMG Academy after spending the last two at New Hampton School.
“He's got good size,” Quarles continues. “He can play both forward positions. He can really, really, really stretch the defense by shooting the basketball. Right now, his confidence level is really, really high.”
According to Quarles, it’s “too early to say” where the Irish could land on his list now that they’ve offered.
“I think it's a great school. I just think it's too early to say. Alex has been getting a lot of offers. He's a great student. Stanford has offered him. We'll see what happens.
“I'd just bet on that kid. I believe in him and I'd bet on him.”
