2018 Frostproof (Fla.) athlete Jeremiah Salaam believes he can help Notre Dame. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder plays running back, receiver, outside linebacker and safety for his high school, but he doesn’t have a preference on where he ends up at the next level.
“Anywhere a school wants me, I will play,” Salaam told Irish Sports Daily. “I am just one of those athletes that plays hard.”
The Florida native has a good shot at playing safety in college and he feels that his play style would fit the position.
“I would say I am more finesse,” he explained. “I don’t have that 200-pound frame yet, but I do have the speed to drop back in coverage and I have make up speed to defend the deep balls. I can lay a hit when it needs to be done, though.
“I play defense with a physical aspect of wanting to get the job done. When I get on the field, I have one objective and that’s to do what I am coached.”
As his recruiting process starts, Salaam is looking for a place he would fit in and that his family approves of, but also a school that holds his future major.
“I am looking for an environment that I could feel it in my heart that is a good pick for my family and I,” said Salaam. “I want to do well in not only sports, but also my studies too.
“I have a couple things I want to juggle, but I want to major in Astronomy. It’s just something I have always been interested in and I want to learn more about it.”
It’s also not a surprise that one school that Salaam holds in high regard is an in-state powerhouse.
“One school I am trying to work hard to get an offer from is Florida,” Salaam said. “I have a few ties to them. One of the coaches got fired and we had a good relationship, so we will see where it goes. I am just trying to see what happens.”
