Notre Dame Adds Houston Grad Transfer Matt Lazzaro
Notre Dame baseball has reeled in another arm for the 2022 season as graduate transfer Matt Lazzaro (LHP) announced he’s headed to South Bend after one year at Houston.
The 6-foot, 194-pounder made nine appearances, including three starts for Houston after transferring from Furman following the Paladins cutting the baseball program.
In 2021, Lazzaro went 0-1 in 19.2 innings for the Cougars with 24 strikeouts and held an ERA of 3.66. The Marrietta (Ga.) native also did not give up a home run last season.
It's also worth noting Link Jarrett has had recent grad transfer success from the Furman program as Irish ace LHP John Michael Bertrand also played for the Paladins before using a grad transfer to Notre Dame.
Bertrand and Lazzaro were part of the rotation for Furman for three seasons.
Notre Dame second baseman Jared Miller also likely had a hand in Lazzaro choosing the Irish as the two are good friends.
