NEWARK, N.J. – Before Adon Shuler‍ made a visit to Notre Dame last month, his head coach told Irish Sports Daily when his players love a school, he doesn’t encourage them to wait to find reasons to love it more.

When the 2023 New Jersey defensive back visited South Bend, he clearly loved it and felt there was no reason to wait to try to love it more, which is why Shuler just made his commitment to the Irish public during a ceremony here on Sunday afternoon.

“It speaks highly of him and him not being a social media butterfly and attention-seeker and him just handling it the right way with a business-like approach,” Irvington head coach Ashley Pierre told ISD. “Seeing something, loving it and understanding the history behind it.

“Adon knows a lot about football, his family knows a lot about the history at Notre Dame. It just speaks a lot about who we are as people at Irvington and the players we have.

“We’re not into all the stars, the media and the offers. It’s more about finding a school that you truly love and committing to where you need to go.”

Shuler gives the Irish three of their top defensive targets in the Class of 2023 already, joining defensive ends Brenan Vernon and Keon Keeley.

Pierre said the Irish are getting a talented player with a high ceiling.

“Adon is big, strong, physical and he loves football,” the coach said. “Him having all of those attributes and being able to be at a program like Irvington and being able to be coached tough helps him become a special kid.

“I think he’s kind of a rare breed to have all of that with him and still be one of the youngest rising juniors in the country having just turned 15. He’s going to continue to be a different kind of kid and different kind of player as he continues his high school career and enters college.”

Shuler is continuing a rich tradition of football at Irvington High School, which sent multiple players to Power-Five programs last cycle and has seen multiple players play at the highest level.

“I think he’s been impacted by the guys who have been around the program, whether it’s the NFL guys or guys who are playing high-level college football,” Pierre said. “I think that kind of motivates him when those guys come back and sees those guys to push forward and keep it going.”

“He receives motivation and impact from the culture itself being around a bunch of dudes, a bunch of talented guys.”
