2023 Hebron (Texas) linebacker Carson Dean‍ made his way to South Bend over the weekend to get his first look at Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder enjoyed his time on campus and got a great feel for what Notre Dame had to offer.

"It went well,” Dean told ISD. “I really liked it a lot. I didn't really know too much. I wanted to get a tour, watch the game and I got all that."

Dean was aware of Notre Dame’s history, but the traditions still were somewhat a surprise to him as he was able to experience them in person.

"I knew the tradition was big there, but it exceeded my expectations,” explained Dean. “The fans were electric the entire game. I really liked that."

The Texas native was also able to connect with the Notre Dame staff before the game and liked what he heard as the Irish will be keeping tabs on him over the coming months.

"I talked to the tight ends coach because Coach (Marcus) Freeman was busy getting ready for the game,” stated Dean. "They said they liked me and my film. They are going to keep watching me and they'll be down in December or January to get a look at me. They're also going to call a couple of my coaches to learn more about me."

On film, Dean is a physical edge player and it’s easy to see why Baylor and Washington have extended early offers.

"I feel I'm good at reading the offense and making quick decisions,” Dean explained. “I’m really good at using my size and speed combination to make plays. I can work on my pass drops and improving my coverage."

Dean also plans to return to South Bend for another visit at some point as he wants to get a look at some of the finer details of the program.

"I'd want to see more of campus, inside the buildings and see more of the football spots on campus like where they eat and that stuff,” Dean said. "I'd like to talk to more of the staff. I know they were busy with the game.

"I'd say Notre Dame is one of my top schools now. I really liked it there. The campus, fans, facilities and the coaches were great."

The Hebron star will now visit three in-state programs coming up as he hopes to add a couple more offers to his name.

"I'm going to Baylor next weekend and then I'm going to take a visit to Texas Tech and Texas,” stated Dean. “That's all I have planned for now."

And yes, Dean is open to leaving the state for school if the fit is right.

"I'm open for sure,” said Dean. “Anywhere in the country. It's really where I feel comfortable, so I'm open to anywhere."
