Surahz Buncom‍ will be making the trip from the West Coast to the Midwest to see Notre Dame play Cincinnati this weekend.

“I had received an invite from the Director of Recruiting and an email and they also had sent out a piece of mail about a week later,” the 2023 California athlete told Irish Sports Daily. “Ever since the email, I registered to go to the game.”

The Mater Dei Catholic standout is excited to learn what Notre Dame is all about.

“Definitely the atmosphere,” he said of what he’s looking to see. “Notre Dame has such a graceful atmosphere. I love both their academic prestige and their football team and they run a great program, so I definitely had to go check them out, 100 percent.

“My brother was recruited by them and Notre Dame was one of his final five options, so I just wanted to check out the school.”

His brother, Frank Buncom IV, was recruited by Notre Dame as a member of the 2014 recruiting class before heading to Stanford to play safety.

“I definitely just want to connect, see, talk to the coaches, see how things operate on the field and off the field,” the younger Buncom continued.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pounder is being recruited to play receiver or corner. He landed an offer from Pitt back in April.

“That was great,” he said. “Definitely a feeling that everybody dreams off. That was my sophomore year, so I was blessed to get the opportunity very young. I was very excited.”

He visited Washington a couple weeks ago and should be hitting up San Diego State and Fresno State soon. Kansas and Cincinnati are also showing plenty of interest.

Buncom says academics will be “the biggest” factor when it’s time for him to make a final decision.
