Kyren Williams Notebook | Post-Virginia Tech

Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams spoke following the win over Virginia Tech.

On 10-yard touchdown run:
"It was an RPO. I wasn't supposed to get the ball. We were supposed to fake it to me, but I told Buchner presnap to give me that ball. There was one backer in the box to the side I was running to.

"I told Buchner to give me the ball and do not pull it and throw it. Let me get this. I made it happen and got in the end zone."

On missing plays on the final drive:
"It was the targeting. Me and Dr. (Matt) Leiszler were just in the tunnel examining if I was able to go back in or not - doing concussion tests. Following a finger and balance on one foot - all of that.

"Once I heard the touchdown, I told Doc, 'I'm going back in.' He said he needed more, but I said there wasn't time for that."

On QB switches:
"I feel that's just how we all are and what we're accustomed to. That's who we are as people. We're always ready for our team when our time is called. We're always proud of our brothers that are in there. We just know Jack is ready to go. It's for the brotherhood. Like Coach Kelly said, Tyler Buchner got hurt and Jack was the first person out there. We all do this for each other and that's a common feeling and relationship with everyone on this team.

"We just have to keep moving forward playing ball like we do."

On two-point conversion:
"We originally had a two-point play planned, but I guess they didn't run it because I wasn't in there. We definitely had something set up. When I saw it, I said like, 'Oh, that's not what we had dialed up for two-point plays.'

"We got playmakers all around the offense and all over this team. You throw the ball up, Kev comes down with it. It's like he flew in the air and caught that ball."

On the offensive line:
"Big step. I feel like we're taking steps each and every game. That gel we're always talking about was there. We were poppin. We probably averaged five yards a carry. There wasn't anything like two yards or many negatives from running the ball.

"We found runs that were productive and we stuck to them. Shoutout to the coaches and the offensive line for doing what we do best and giving us as running backs a chance."

On physicality:
"Being able to display our physicality on our opponent each and every down is going to wear and tear on them. They're going to fold eventually and we know that.

"We're still getting there. That's what I like to do. I like to talk and that's what gets me going. Whenever I'm in that locked in the zone, I know my boys are feeling that and vibing on that."

On freshman RB Logan Diggs:
"He showed up. He showed up big-time. We expected that from Logan. We always knew he had it in him. He came out tonight and proved himself when he needed to prove himself on the last drive when the crowd was going crazy. We saw how even-keeled he was. He caught the angle route and he proved himself. I'm proud of Logan. We all knew it, but he has a bright future."

On bye week plans:
"I have no idea. I'm definitely not doing anything football-wise. As soon as we get done on Thursday, I'm kicking my feet up and I'm done. I'm chillin until Monday come when we're back at it.

"I told Coach Taylor this was a perfect time for a bye week because I'm hurting."
