BREAKING | Elite 2022 G JJ Starling Commits To Notre Dame
The Notre Dame men’s basketball program needed to start making waves in recruiting and the Irish just registered a tsunami with 2022 guard JJ Starling, who announced his commitment on Tuesday evening.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pounder chose Notre Dame over Duke, Syracuse, Alabama, Stanford, Northwestern and many others, who were chasing Starling until the end.
A high-four-star prospect, Starling is a consensus Top 50 player in America and is ranked as the 27th player in the ESPN Top 100.
Starling is the highest-rated recruit during the Mike Brey Era since local star Demetris Jackson decided to stay home and sign with the Irish in the Class of 2023.
An extremely productive offensive player, Starling’s AAU coach with the Albany City Rocks says he has “an NBA jumpshot” and others agree.
A native of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Starling has spent the last couple seasons playing at La Lumiere School, which is about 30 minutes away from South Bend.
The entire Notre Dame staff put on a fullcourt press over the past few months to get Starling on board. He made multiple trips to campus during the summer and Brey took a Ferrari up to his school to scoop Starling up for his official visit in September.
The attention and affection the Notre Dame coaches showed clearly made an impact.
“I love them,” Starling told Irish Sports Daily of Brey and his staff. “They're a great group of guys. They're people that you want to be around and potentially play with, same with the coaches. They treat you straight up, they don't lie to you. They don't sugarcoat anything.
“They just all have great personalities that you want to be around.”
He joins New England forward Dom Campbell, who committed to Notre Dame back in July.
