Terry Totten’s comments aren’t a huge shock considering Anthony Speca‍ was the first prospect in the Class of 2024 to publicly report an offer from Notre Dame.

“He checks all of the boxes,” says Totten, head coach of Pennsylvania powerhouse Central Catholic High School.

“He's very mature. He takes a very serious approach to the game, works on it on and off the field, film time, very intelligent football player. He's a leader. So, he's the real deal.”

The linebacker prospect landed an offer from the Irish back in April. His offer sheet also includes schools like Penn State, Pitt, Michigan, Purdue, Colorado and West Virginia.

“He's 6-2, 230 in 10th grade,” says Totten. “That's a pretty good start. He's got the quickness and he can run a little bit. He's athletic. He's gifted.”

Speca made trips to South Bend this past June and July and will be back on campus this weekend for the Irish’s primetime game against USC.

“Tradition, good academics,” Totten says of Speca’s interest in the Irish.

“The reasons that anyone loves Notre Dame.”

Totten is plenty familiar with Notre Dame, having had family members attend the school as well as current defensive lineman Kurt Hinish and his younger brother, Donovan Hinish‍, who is committed to play for the Irish after wrapping up his prep career at Central Catholic.

Totten believes the Notre Dame staff knows what it’s getting when it lands a player from his program.

“I think they know that our kids are coached hard and that we're coaching college techniques. We run a disciplined program, so he's used to the grind.”
