On Thursday, Notre Dame officially announced the hiring of wide receivers coach DelVaughn Alexander.
“I’m excited to officially get on board, hit the road recruiting, and to find and develop the best student-athletes in the country,” said Alexander in a statement. “Notre Dame is a special place, and I’ve been able to the see the power of its brand on the recruiting trails across the country for the last 15-20 years. I’m honored and humbled to serve this University, this program and these remarkable young men.”
Head coach Brian Kelly added this about Alexander.
“I was looking for an experienced teacher, mentor, recruiter and developer of student-athletes,” said head coach Brian Kelly. “Del not only met the criteria, but he exceeded it. He also understands, respects and values the type of young men we want to bring to this University and football program.”
It didn't come as a surprise, as Alexander hit the road recruiting and saw 2017 Fort Wayne (Ind.) receiver Mac Hippenhammer on Thursday morning.
Prior to Arizona State, Alexander worked at Wisconsin, San Diego, Oregon State and UNLV. He also worked as an offensive assistant for the San Diego Chargers in 1999.
The 45-year old is a USC graduate and was a GA for the Trojan from 1996-97. Alexander did play football for USC and was the backup to Keyshawn Johnson.
Alexander will replace Mike Denbrock, who left Notre Dame for Cincinnati earlier this month. New offensive coordinator Chip Long and Alexander have a history, as they both were at Arizona State from 2012-15.
