After Fletcher Westphal‍ made the trip from Virginia to South Bend to check out Notre Dame, Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn is saying he may need to repay the visit.

Westphal, a 2024 offensive lineman in the Class of 2024, was in town to see the Irish’s game against North Carolina on Saturday night.

“It was amazing,” the Tuscarora High School standout told Irish Sports Daily. “I got to meet the coaches and some players, ended up walking around, looking at the campus, seeing the stadium and the energy there.”

The 6-foot-7, 320-pounder has early offers from schools like Virginia, West Virginia, Penn State and Pitt. He had the chance to speak with Quinn before the game.

“It was his first look at me,” Westphal said. “He was like, 'Oh, you're bigger than I thought you were. Love to have you up here again.' He was kind of joking, 'Now, I have to come to Virginia now.'

“I think he's a great coach. You see how Notre Dame's o-line played. Coaching reflects the players, so when players are playing good, the coaching is good.”

Westphal also had the chance to speak with Notre Dame Senior Analyst Chad Bowden, who he called “a very nice dude.”

He also had the chance to meet Notre Dame freshman offensive lineman Blake Fisher.

“We've been following him since before he was at the school,” Westphal explained. “I got a nice picture with him. He's a great dude, great offensive lineman. It sucks that he's injured right now, but he's like a big motivation for me. He's a great person, great o-lineman.”

The Irish’s 44-34 win over the Tar Heels was also impressive.

“It was insane,” said Westphal. “You've got people screaming. You've got the Irishmen down in front dancing around. You've got people in the crowd pushing people up and down. It was crazy.”

The Irish offensive line certainly made an impression on Westphal.

“They were just dominating, really,” he said. “I saw blocks, blocks, blocks. I think I saw five pancakes and I wasn't even paying attention to the o-line the whole game, but just out of the corner of my eye, I saw at least five pancakes.”

Westphal will see Notre Dame in action again as he’ll be at Virginia when the Irish play the Cavaliers in a couple weeks.

He’s also planning stops at Maryland and Pittsburgh this season and said he’ll “most definitely” be back in South Bend at some point.
