Big-Time 2024 QB DJ Lagway Talks Notre Dame Visit

Derek Lagway‍ hadn’t had a ton of contact with Notre Dame prior to the 2024 Texas quarterback’s trip to South Bend this weekend, but that may change after the visit.

“It was fun,” the 6-foot, 176-pounder told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “I had a good time.

“At first, we went into the practice building so we could get settled in and registered. Then we put on some uniforms. We watched the players and coaches walk out and then after that, we went on the field and watched them warm up.”

The Willis High School standout was impressed with the campus in South Bend.

“It’s beautiful,” Lagway said. “It's nice. I like it. It's different than when I've made visits down in Texas, but I like it. It's nice.”

Lagway, who has early offers from schools like Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston and Georgia Tech, called the atmosphere around the game and in the Stadium “amazing.”

“You can tell that they have a huge fan base,” he said. “I liked the atmosphere a lot.”

He also enjoyed watching the Irish beat North Carolina 44-34.

“It was a great game all around,” he said. “They came out strong with the running game. They did a lot of RPOs. I liked the way they played. I think I would fit well in their offense.”

Prior to the game, Lagway had the opportunity to catch up with Notre Dame quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

“I spoke to Coach Rees a lot and got his number,” Lagway said. “He said we'd be in contact. He was a nice guy; nice and outgoing. I could tell he means good and he's a great coach.

“He said he was going to try to come down to one of my basketball practices or something. This was actually my first time being down here. I've never talked to any of the coaches, so it was my first time meeting them and talking to them.”

Lagway called the interest “a blessing.”

“It means a lot,” he said.

Lagway will take a visit to Georgia next weekend, but that’s all he has planned for now.
