Gabe Sawchuk‍ made his first trip to Notre Dame earlier this month and the 2024 Colorado running back left impressed.

“It was great,” the Valor Christian High School star told Irish Sports Daily.

“We went to the new indoor facility. I got a great opportunity to try on the uniform. We got to walk around the campus a little bit. We saw the Player Walk and then obviously, the game, which was a wonderful experience.”

Sawchuk’s brother, former top 2022 Irish running back Gavin Sawchuk, visited South Bend a couple years back.

“My brother went out there like two years ago, but I did not go out there with him because I was doing some stuff for track,” he said.

“It's a great place. Obviously, they have a great education, environment at the stadium, with the fans, with the team and coaches as well. It's just really, really nice. I'd always been interested and I'd like to maybe go out there and visit again if I could.”

While in town on this trip, Sawchuk was able to connect with Notre Dame running backs coach Lance Taylor.

“We had conversations, just talking about how he likes to train his running backs and if he'd come out here to see me sometime, so it was nice,” said Sawchuk.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder enjoyed Notre Dame’s 34-6 win over Navy.

“The game was a lot of fun,” he said. “The atmosphere was great. I knew the Irishmen would do pushups once Notre Dame scored, but I did not know the whole student section started doing it. When I saw that, I was pretty amazed. The pregame, when they sung the song and then the team came out, that gave me goosebumps. It was pretty nice.”

Sawchuk also liked what he saw from the Irish’s offense.

“I liked the way they use their running backs inside and outside zone,” he said. “Some of their plays actually remind me of what we did here at Valor. I was trying to picture myself in the environment and I think could see myself being there and running those plays.”

Sawchuk has early offers from Colorado, USC and Arizona State.

“It's a huge blessing,” he said. “Obviously, to get them at their age I am and to have that kind of success, it's a real blessing. I wouldn't be able to do it without the family and friends that I have and obviously without my linemen as well.”

He said he “definitely” learned from watching the recruitment of his brother, who is set to sign with Oklahoma.

“I learned a whole lot from watching him go through the process, how to answer certain questions and what questions to ask while we're on visits and stuff like that,” he said.

Sawchuk doesn’t have any other trips locked in yet, but said expressed a sincere desire to return to South Bend when he gets the chance.
