BREAKING | Notre Dame Flips Top Punter Bryce McFerson
We’re a month away from the Early Signing Period and flip season is officially here.
2022 Metrolina Christian Academy (N.C.) punter Bryce McFerson has committed to Notre Dame after decommitting from Wake Forest on Friday.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is ranked as the No. 1 punter by Chris Sailer and the No. 2 punter by Kohl’s Kicking.
“Bryce is a phenomenal high school punting and kicking prospect,” Sailer stated on his website. “He is a great-looking athlete with a powerful leg. His punting is a major strength. He hits a FBS-level ball and his consistency is impressive. His feet and hands are quick and efficient. Bryce is averaging 45+ yards, with 4.7+ hang time. He also shows he can hit 50+, with 5.0+ hang time.”
Notre Dame special teams coordinator Brian Polian has focused on hang time over distance and McFerson’s times fit well with what the Irish are looking for in a punter.
McFerson also kicks, but he could also be used on kickoffs.
“His kickoffs are strong, college ready,” Sailer’s website states. “A competitor that kicks with confidence. Bryce has a bright future with continued hard work. I look forward to seeing what the future holds. Bryce is a fine young man with a great attitude and work ethic. One of the hardest workers out there. He has all the tools to dominate the next level.”
The North Carolina native earned an invite to the Under Armour All-America Game, but McFerson will end his prep career at the All-American Bowl in January.
