FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – While the Notre Dame coaching staff circles the country solidifying its 2022 recruiting class, the staff has also made some strategic check-ins with prospects in the Class of 2023.

One of Irish defensive line coach Mike Elston’s very first stops this week was in Massachusetts to check in on 2023 defensive end Boubacar Traore‍.

Traore and his Catholic Memorial teammates finished off that state championship run here at Gillette Stadium on Thursday night with 42-18 win over King Philip.

We caught up with Traore briefly afterward.

He confirmed that Elston did make it into the school on Monday and that the two have been in communication before and afterward.

“We’ve just talked,” Traore said. “We’ve had some really good conversations.”

The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder from West Roxbury has been committed to Boston College since last summer and Eagles head coach Jeff Hafley was in attendance on Thursday night to see Traore and fellow 2022 BC commit, wide receiver Joe Griffin, who played in the game prior to Catholic Memorial’s.

But the Irish have been interested in Traore since at least the summer, when they were trying to get him on campus for camp, and seriously pursuing him since offering in October.

“They really want me to go to the school,” Traore said. “I really like Notre Dame, so we’ll see.”

He hasn’t been able to get to South Bend yet, but expects to soon.

“Not yet, after the season I am,” he said.

His initial impressions of Marcus Freeman’s pending hire as head coach are positive.

“It’s the defensive coordinator. He’s a defensive guy and it really fits me because I play defense.”
