According to a report from BuckeyeScoop.com, former Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis is set to join the Notre Dame football staff.

In talking with sources around Notre Dame, ISD can confirm Laurinaitis is expected to join the Fighting Irish program in a support staff role as an analyst or potentially a graduate assistant, but the GA rules are a little murky as there are several guidelines with an expiration clock.

Laurinaitis, a native of Plymouth, Minn., played with Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman at Ohio State and both were drafted in the 2009 NFL Draft.

The 2007 Butkus Award winner played for St. Louis Rams and the New Orleans Saints before retiring in 2017.

In 2017, the Big Ten Network hired Laurinaitis as a college football analyst and he also was part of a local Ohio State TV show.

Laurinaitis is also the son of the late Joe Laurinaitis, who might be better known as WWE Hall of Famer 'Road Warrior Animal.'
