Caleb Douglas‍ is “that guy,” according to Hightower High School coach Mac DeVille.

“He's a freak athlete, man,” DeVille says of the 2022 wide receiver from Texas. “Every town has that one kid who people tell stories about, when they saw him play in Pee Wee or whatever and that's Caleb.

“He's the best athlete around town. He's the best athlete in the school. He can 360 dunk a basketball with both hands. He can pitch a baseball almost 90 miles an hour. He's our best player in baseball. He's one of the best basketball players too. He's just a freak, man. He's just good at whatever he wants to be good at with little effort.”

A one-time Baylor commit, Douglas had been committed to USC until the coaching staff change led to his decommitment. He’s now being pursued by multiple schools, including Notre Dame, which offered him a scholarship earlier this month.

“Everybody really has been looking at him since he decommitted from USC with Lincoln Riley going out there,” DeVille says. “Lincoln had his guys already.

“I think Tommy Rees was just really interested in him. I think it was just a numbers game, seeing how many spots they had left like a lot of schools. Just seeing after Signing Day how many spots they have left.”

Douglas took an official visit to Florida this weekend, but is intrigued by the Irish offer.

“I know he's excited about it,” DeVille says. “Obviously Notre Dame carries a lot of weight. He's got a couple official visits left he can take. I'm sure they're going to want to get him up there. I imagine he'll try to get up there. I know he was very excited about the offer.”

He certainly has connections to the other schools as well.

“At one point, he was committed to Baylor at one point and they're still after him,” DeVille says. “(Dave) Aranda is still very heavily after him as well as (Jeff) Grimes.

“Caleb was actually (head coach) Napier's first offer when he got the Florida job. Obviously, with his receiver coaching background, that speaks volumes. Texas offered him. (Steve Sarkisian) came down here and watched Caleb play basketball in person.”

And now, the Irish have a connection of their own having just hired former Baylor receivers coach Chansi Stuckey.
