Notre Dame has added more depth to its 2022 roster as Harvard graduate transfer punter Jon Sot has announced he'll walk on with the Irish.

Sot will graduate from Harvard in May with a degree in Economics and have one year of eligibility left.

Over the last few years, Sot was the top punter in the Ivy League as he was named to the FCS Punter of the Year Watch List in 2020 and 2021.  Sot comes to Notre Dame as a two-time First Team All-Ivy League selection and Harvard’s punt average record holder.

In 2021, the New Jersey native punted 57 times with an average of 39.7 yards, but don't let that fool you as Sot pinned the opponent inside the 20 24 times in 2021, including 5-of-8 punts against Holy Cross in October.

Sot has career longs of 76, 75 and 67 yards during his three seasons at the punter for Harvard, so he can also get the down the field.

Harvard head coach Tim Murphy couldn't have been higher on Sot's abilities for the Crimson.

"His ability to flip the field is a huge asset," Murphy told Harvard Magazine in the fall. "Jon can do it all. If you want to pin the opponent down, he can pin the opponent down. If you need a 50-yard punt, he can manage that. He's kind of like a baseball pitcher. He's got a lot of different pitches."

Sot will compete with true freshman Bryce McFerson for the starting job in 2022.

Year Punts Avg. Long Touchback 50+ Inside 20 Fair Catch
2018 51 41.1 75 2 10 19 13
2019 28 42.2 76 0 6 7 13
2021 57 39.7 67 2 8 24 28
