He may not have been happy with the number of reps he ultimately got, but 2024 Virginia offensive lineman Fletcher Westphal‍ was certainly satisfied with his own performance at the National Underclassmen Combine in San Antonio earlier this month.

“I did good,” the 6-foot-7, 320-pounder told Irish Sports Daily. “I didn't get as many reps as I wanted because there were a lot of people who played tackle, but if I got more reps, I guarantee I would've been balling out.”

The massive Tuscarora High School standout already has offers from Virginia, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Old Dominion.

He made a trip to South Bend in October for Notre Dame’s game against North Carolina.

“That was fun,” Westphal said. “They had all the people in the stands, pushing people up and down. It was crazy.”

He’d like to return to Notre Dame in the future.

“Yeah,” he said. “I mean, I wouldn't see a reason not to.”

But Westphal needs to establish a new contact on staff now that Jeff Quinn has been replaced with Harry Hiestand as the Irish’s offensive line coach.

If Westphal does get back, he’ll be looking to see the same things from Notre Dame that he wants to see from other schools .

“What I would say for all of these colleges; I see all of the athletics, but I don't see any of the actual school itself,” he said. “Even if it's just exploring, I just want to do that.”

At least two schools caught his attention in a major way with visits this past fall.

“That game I went to at Pitt was really great,” he said. “It was probably one the games I was most locked into. It was Pitt versus verse UVA. I have offers from both of them. Just to see them fighting each other was a really entertaining game. It looked amazing.

“UVA too. I mean, everything there kind of started to fall apart after the head coach left, but after they got new head coach in there, everything started to stabilize again, which is good. It's just a great school.”
