Notre Dame has made Texas a priority in recent years and 2023 Marlin linebacker Derion Gullette‍ is the latest to add an offer from the Irish.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder already held offers from Baylor, Texas and Texas A&M, but following the Irish offer, Houston, Oklahoma, Oregon and TCU quickly offered.

"It felt great to have one of the top programs looking at me and want me to come play for their college," Gullette told ISD following the offer from Notre Dame.

"I had been in contact with one of the coaches, but it was surprising."

Gullette is familiar with the Notre Dame program and will look further into the Irish now that he holds the offer.

"I most definitely need to do more research on Notre Dame," stated Gullette. "I watched a couple of games this year. I know it's a great program and they have a high graduation rate."

Most programs see Gullette as a Buck linebacker, but he provides versatility to play a number of roles at the second level.

"We haven't discussed which linebacker position yet," Gullette said of where Notre Dame projects him. "I feel I'm versatile. I have speed and I can dominate with my hands."

Baylor, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M hosted Gullette this fall, and he's currently figuring out his next step in the recruiting process.

"I really haven't sat down and discussed it yet," Gullette said of his visit schedule. "I'm honestly not sure right now."

Texas A&M holds a ton of recruiting momentum and Gullette believes it's due to the coaching staff.

"The coaches are genuine and they care about the players more as people," stated Gullette. "It's also a great program."

The Texas native is also open to leaving the state for college as he's looking for a family feel.

"I most definitely would be open to leaving the state," said Gullette. "It's gotta be the right fit.

"When I look at the colleges, I'm looking at how they would help me after I graduate. I want to see the culture and graduation rate too."
