2024 RB Gabe Sawchuk Interested In Notre Dame
Gabe Sawchuk took some time in San Antonio last month to get a peek at how elite high school prospects perform and what the game is like at the highest level.
But in reality, the 2024 Colorado running back has a had a front row seat to that for many years.
Sawchuk was in Texas to work out at the All-American Underclassmen Combine, but also to see his older brother, 2022 running back Gavin Sawchuk play in the All-American Bowl at the Alamodome.
The younger Sawchuk appreciated the opportunity to see the best high school players compete at practice during the week leading up to the game.
“I got to see how linebackers flow, how running backs are moving, so it was good,” the Valor Christian standout said. “I thought it was really cool. Linebackers are obviously faster than the average dudes in high school and linemen are big, running backs are quick and fast.”
The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder already has offers from Colorado, Arizona State and USC.
He’s also received interest from schools like Ole Miss and Kansas State as well as Notre Dame.
“I went up there actually for the Notre Dame-Navy game,” he said of South Bend. “I went up there and got to see that. That was really nice.”
Sawchuk and his brother had the chance to speak with former Notre Dame running backs coach Lance Taylor, who also traveled to Colorado for a game. Now, Sawchuk will look to establish a connection with new Irish running backs coach Deland McCullough.
He’d also like to return to South Bend in the future.
“That would be really nice,” said Sawchuk.”
It’s still early, but after watching his brother go through the process before ultimately signing with Oklahoma, has helped him know what’s important to him.
“I want to have a good education, just a really solid education. I know my brother went for real big education sometimes. He was actually interested in Stanford and he was very interested in Notre Dame. I'm interested in Notre Dame because of the good education.”
