Notre Dame isn’t one of the dozen-plus schools that have already offered Peter Jones‍, but that doesn’t bother the 2024 Pennsylvania offensive lineman one bit.

“Obviously, they're slow when compared to the other schools recruiting-wise, which I completely get,” says Jones.

“Honestly, I rather prefer that. They're saying they're very interested, which I really appreciate, which means a lot to me.”

The Irish haven’t just said they’re interested, they’ve shown they’re interested.

“This is going on my third week talking to (offensive line coach Harry) Hiestand on Wednesdays,” the Malvern Prep standout says. “I've had a couple conversations with my coach and some of the different recruiters on the staff. It's been going really well.”

The 6-foot-6, 296-pounder’s offer sheet already includes schools like Penn State, Pitt, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Nebraska among several others.

Jones made trips to Penn State and Virginia over the summer and has plans to get to South Bend next month.

“I was originally trying to maybe see if I could get up for the spring game, but I was talking with Coach Hiestand and he was saying that either April 2nd or April 9th are their two dates when they're really trying to get guys to come up,” Jones explained.

“I was talking with my coach and with my parents a little bit and I I'm thinking that April 2nd is going to work out the best.”

So, Jones’ interest in the Irish is also genuine.

“The first reason I'd say is definitely the faith aspect,” he said of his interest in Notre Dame. “I'd say that's definitely number one. Secondly, academically, they have a great reputation for academics. Academics is something I'm definitely looking into when deciding which school I want to go to.

“I had a really nice conversation with Chad Bowden last week. His main message was just, 'Notre Dame sets the guys up for the future. It helps you have a better start for your life.’”

The trip to South Bend could be the only one he makes this spring.

“This will probably be the big thing I'll do,” he said. “I haven't looked at summer yet, but as far as spring goes, this is probably about it.”

Hiestand explained he likes the way Jones moves at his size and the mentality he has for the game.

And while the Irish are certainly being patient, their interest is obvious.

“I was talking with Chad Bowden and he was saying St. Patrick's Day is something special. I don't know if that's a hint or something.”
